In 2007, Willis stated he was not in favor of war in Iraq, but instead liked, \u201cto support the young men and women who are over there participating in the war.\u201d[38] He has endorsed every Republican presidential candidate except Bob Dole in 1996, because Dole had criticized Moore for her role in the movie Striptease.[39] Willis was an invited speaker at the 2000 Republican National Convention,[40] and continues to vocally support gun ownership. He has criticized the religious right and its influence on the Republican party. In February 2006, Willis appeared in Manhattan to talk about 16 Blocks with reporters. One reporter attempted to ask Willis about his opinion on current events but was interrupted by Willis in mid-sentence:<\/p>\n

In several June 2007 interviews, he declared that he still maintains some Republican ideologies but is currently an independent.[4][35] In an interview for the June 2007 issue of Vanity Fair, Bruce Willis said he was skeptical that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and suggested that some people involved in the assassination are still in power today.[42]<\/p>\n

In 2006, he proposed that the United States should invade Colombia in order to end the drug trafficking.[43] In several interviews with USA Weekend, Willis has said that he supports large salaries for teachers, and says that he is disappointed in the United States’ foster care and treatment of Native Americans.[44] Willis also stated that he is a big supporter of gun rights:<\/p>\n

Sheen revealed during an Alex Jones interview that he questions the official story concerning the September 11, 2001 attacks.[26] Sheen stated during the interview, “…it just didn’t look like any commercial jetliner I’ve flown on any time in my life and then when the buildings came down later on that day I said to my brother, ‘Call me insane, but did it sorta look like those buildings came down in a controlled demolition?'”[27] During a March 22, 2006 appearance on CNN’s Showbiz Tonight, Sheen stated “We’re not the conspiracy theorists on this particular issue. It seems to me like 19 amateurs with box cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75 percent of their targets — that feels like a conspiracy theory”.[23] On October 27, 2007, his views on 9\/11 were echoed by his father Martin Sheen.[28]<\/p>\n

Sheen was the 2004 spokesperson for the Lee National Denim Day breast cancer fundraiser that raised millions of dollars for research and education regarding the disease. Sheen stated that a friend of his died from breast cancer and he wanted to try to help find a cure for the disease. Sheen also launched clothing line for kids, called Sheen Kidz in 2006.<\/p>\n

O’Donnell\/Hasselbeck argument
\nO’Donnell has condemned many of the Bush administration’s policies, especially the war in Iraq and the resulting occupation.[101] She consistently brought up recent military deaths and news about the war, and has criticized the US media for its lack of attention to these issues. On 17 May 2007 O’Donnell rhetorically asked,<\/p>\n

Conservative commentators responded by claiming O’Donnell was comparing American soldiers to terrorists. On 23 May 2007 a heated discussion ensued, in part, because of what O’Donnell perceived as Hasselbeck’s unwillingness to defend O’Donnell as not against the troops with O’Donnell asking her “Do you believe I think our troops are terrorists?” Hasselbeck answered in the negative but also stated “Defend your own insinuations.”[103][104][105][106] O’Donnell stated that Republican pundits were mischaracterising her statements and the right-wing media would portray her as a bully attacking “innocent pure Christian Elisabeth” whenever they disagreed. Despite repeated attempts by their co-hosts to change the topic or cut to a commercial break, O’Donnell and Hasselbeck continued their debate.<\/p>\n

According to ABC News, O’Donnell said that she knew her time on the show was over when she saw the exchange reported in the news media with the split screen effect showing her and Hasselbeck on either side. O’Donnell and ABC agreed to cut short her contract agreement on May 25, 2007 as a result of this issue. ABC News reported that her arguments with Hasselbeck brought the show its best ratings ever.<\/p>\n
