In 2007, Willis stated he was not in favor of war in Iraq, but instead liked, “to support the young men and women who are over there participating in the war.”[38] He has endorsed every Republican presidential candidate except Bob Dole in 1996, because Dole had criticized Moore for her role in the movie Striptease.[39] Willis was an invited speaker at the 2000 Republican National Convention,[40] and continues to vocally support gun ownership. He has criticized the religious right and its influence on the Republican party. In February 2006, Willis appeared in Manhattan to talk about 16 Blocks with reporters. One reporter attempted to ask Willis about his opinion on current events but was interrupted by Willis in mid-sentence:

“ I’m sick of answering this fucking question. I’m a Republican only as far as I want a smaller government, I want less government intrusion. I want them to stop shitting on my money and your money and tax dollars that we give 50 percent of… every year. I want them to be fiscally responsible and I want these goddamn lobbyists out of Washington. Do that and I’ll say I’m a Republican… I hate the government, OK? I’m apolitical. Write that down. I’m not a Republican.[41] ”

In several June 2007 interviews, he declared that he still maintains some Republican ideologies but is currently an independent.[4][35] In an interview for the June 2007 issue of Vanity Fair, Bruce Willis said he was skeptical that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and suggested that some people involved in the assassination are still in power today.[42]

In 2006, he proposed that the United States should invade Colombia in order to end the drug trafficking.[43] In several interviews with USA Weekend, Willis has said that he supports large salaries for teachers, and says that he is disappointed in the United States’ foster care and treatment of Native Americans.[44] Willis also stated that he is a big supporter of gun rights:

“Everyone has a right to bear arms. If you take guns away from legal gun owners, then the only people who have guns are the bad guys.” Even a pacifist, he insists, would get violent if someone were trying to kill him. “You would fight for your life.”

CHARLIE SHEEN

Sheen revealed during an Alex Jones interview that he questions the official story concerning the September 11, 2001 attacks.[26] Sheen stated during the interview, “…it just didn’t look like any commercial jetliner I’ve flown on any time in my life and then when the buildings came down later on that day I said to my brother, ‘Call me insane, but did it sorta look like those buildings came down in a controlled demolition?'”[27] During a March 22, 2006 appearance on CNN’s Showbiz Tonight, Sheen stated “We’re not the conspiracy theorists on this particular issue. It seems to me like 19 amateurs with box cutters taking over four commercial airliners and hitting 75 percent of their targets — that feels like a conspiracy theory”.[23] On October 27, 2007, his views on 9/11 were echoed by his father Martin Sheen.[28]

Sheen was the 2004 spokesperson for the Lee National Denim Day breast cancer fundraiser that raised millions of dollars for research and education regarding the disease. Sheen stated that a friend of his died from breast cancer and he wanted to try to help find a cure for the disease. Sheen also launched clothing line for kids, called Sheen Kidz in 2006.

On March 26, 2007, in a conversation about the Bush administration’s rationale for the invasion of Iraq, O’Donnell stated that 7 World Trade Center had been imploded, in line with 9/11 conspiracy theories.[76][77][78] When asked by Hasselbeck who she thought was responsible, she commented that she had no idea, but according to the Miami Herald she suggested in her blog that it was done to destroy evidence of the corporate financial scandals at Enron and WorldCom.[79] Popular Mechanics posted a response on its website disputing the claims.[80]

Accusations of anti-Catholicism
O’Donnell has been accused of serial anti-Catholicism and labeled a bigot by Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, for what he deems “relentless and profoundly ignorant attacks on the Catholic Church and its teachings.”[81][82] On the 24 February 2003 episode of Phil Donahue’s talk show O’Donnell referred to the “pedophile scandal”* in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston resulting in $157 million awarded to 983 claimants,[83][84][85][86][87] stating “I hope the Catholic Church gets sued until the end of time. Maybe, you know, we can melt down some of the gold toilets in the Pope’s Vatican and pay off some of the lawsuits because, the whole tenet of living a Christ-like life, has been lost in Catholicism.”[88] (*Pedophile, as in this instance, is commonly misused to describe all sexual offenders of children.)[89][90][91]

On The View O’Donnell has regularly joked about communion rituals alongside co-host Behar’s drunk priest comments.[92] On 2 October 2006 she compared the Republican Party cover-up of the Mark Foley scandal to the cover-up of child sexual abuse by Catholic Church officials who actively concealed perpetrators by moving them from parish to parish as detailed in Amy Berg’s award-winning film about the abuse within the Catholic church.[93][94] O’Donnell said “the most interesting thing about Deliver Us from Evil (is) that the person who was in charge of investigating all the allegations of pedophilia in the Catholic church from the ‘80s until just recently was guess who? The current Pope.”[92][84] Although Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) was the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from November 1981 to April 2005, responsibility to investigate sexual abuse of minors by priests only started in 2001 and the Pope has denounced the abuse.[95][96][97]

On April 19, 2007 the all-woman panel on The View discussed the Supreme Court of the United States ruling on Gonzales v. Carhart decision upholding the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. O’Donnell cited a Gloria Steinem quote, “If men could get pregnant abortion would be a sacrament” adding “How many Supreme Court judges are Catholic?” and “[H]ow about separation of church and state?” This sparked reaction from conservatives calling her statements “anti-Catholic bigotry” and suggested that such statements against other religions would not be tolerated.[98][99][100]

O’Donnell/Hasselbeck argument
O’Donnell has condemned many of the Bush administration’s policies, especially the war in Iraq and the resulting occupation.[101] She consistently brought up recent military deaths and news about the war, and has criticized the US media for its lack of attention to these issues. On 17 May 2007 O’Donnell rhetorically asked,

“655,000 Iraqi civilians dead. Who are the terrorists? … if you were in Iraq and another country, the United States, the richest in the world, invaded your country and killed 655,000 of your citizens, what would you call us?[102] ”

Conservative commentators responded by claiming O’Donnell was comparing American soldiers to terrorists. On 23 May 2007 a heated discussion ensued, in part, because of what O’Donnell perceived as Hasselbeck’s unwillingness to defend O’Donnell as not against the troops with O’Donnell asking her “Do you believe I think our troops are terrorists?” Hasselbeck answered in the negative but also stated “Defend your own insinuations.”[103][104][105][106] O’Donnell stated that Republican pundits were mischaracterising her statements and the right-wing media would portray her as a bully attacking “innocent pure Christian Elisabeth” whenever they disagreed. Despite repeated attempts by their co-hosts to change the topic or cut to a commercial break, O’Donnell and Hasselbeck continued their debate.

On October 18, 2002, Penn placed a US$56,000 advertisement in the Washington Post asking President George W. Bush to end a cycle of violence. This advertisement was cited as a primary reason for the development of his friendship with Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez. Hugo Chávez has also used and read aloud an open letter Sean Penn wrote to President Bush in one of his recent televised speeches.[8] The letter condemned the Iraq War, called for President Bush to be impeached, and also called President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice “villainously and criminally obscene people”.[13] Chávez also said in the same televised speech “Welcome to Venezuela, Mr. Penn. What drives him is consciousness, the search for new paths,” and also “He’s one of the greatest opponents of the Iraq invasion.”[13]

On August, 2007, Penn met with Hugo Chávez in Caracas for two hours. Chávez praised his bravery in urging Americans to impeach President Bush. Chávez also said Penn “made great films” and that he was “well-informed”. Penn also visited a new film studio on the outskirts of Caracas, though he did not speak publicly.[13]

On June 10, 2005, Penn made a visit to Iran. Acting as a journalist on an assignment for the San Francisco Chronicle, he attended a Friday prayer at Tehran University.[14]
