There is a viral hoax going around that claims the Snow is fake and does not melt under a flame. I am going to show you the scientific explanation and why this is.

WHAT IS SNOW?

WHY DOES THE SNOW TURN BLACK?

Why does the snow turn Black after exposure to the lighter flame?

Flames release unburned hydrocarbons which leaves a black residue also known as Soot. Try using the same lighter on ANYTHING, a glass, pen, pop can, etc. It will always leave the black soot. It’s simply unburned carbons.

What is Soot?

WHY DOES IT NOT MELT?

It is melting. The water is just absorbing back into the snow taking up air spaces between the less dense flakes. In other words….. SLUSH! lol

This process is called Sublimation.
